The cause of Listeria contaminated food is often linked to food processing equipment with poor hygienic design. The European food processing industry is currently experiencing excellent growth. In order to continue to stay competitive within the global market, many companies are investing in more efficient and safer production lines. Even now poorly hygienic designed equipment is often chosen a head of more hygienic versions. Why? Is hygienic equipment more costly? Is it possible to persuade the budget holders into choosing the more costly hygienic version over a cheaper but lower quality version? Is it possible to increase profitability by focusing on food safety? How do we balance between economy, production efficiency and food safety?
